Nautical Nails

For the base color I used Opi Alpine Snow, and Rich Girls & Poboys, along with Color Club In De-Nile, and Over the Moon on a sponge in random order and dabbed over each nail about 4 times. Once the sponging was dry I used Mdu Black with Mo-You London Sailor 04 plate to stamp on the nautical design. After letting the black dry a few minutes I went in with Glisten & Glow Hk Girl Top coat to finish up with a smooth glossy look.

Best of Nail Care 2015

I wanted to do a list of some of my favorite products that I discovered in 2015. Now I know that a lot of these products are not new but they are new to me. They have become somewhat of a Holy Grail list for me. Whenever I sit down to do my nails all of these products are used. Most I did purchase through Amazon and will provide links, but a few I purchased at Sally's beauty supply or Glisten and Glow's website.

First up is my all time favorite nail polish remover. I came across CND Shellac Nourishing Remover when I was on the hunt for something that would take off glitter polish better then using straight acetone. Like the nail suggests it is nourishing. I never have that dried out white looking skin whenever I use this to take off my polish. It works on gel, glitter, and regular polish like a dream. I will use the foil method when it comes to glitter and gel but any other time I just use this and a cotton ball. I purchase mine on Amazon here.

Recently I have been having some issues with my right hand nails peeling. I know I am way rougher on that hand so I wanted to get a base coat that would help strengthen them. If you look up best base coat 9/10 you are going to find Opi's Nail Envy. It comes in several different versions but I find all I need is the original formula. Ever since introducing this into my nail care routine I have noticed a huge decrease in peeling and flaking. I do tend to not paint my right hand as often as my left but it always has at least one to two coats of this base coat on at all times. I purchased mine at Amazon here.

Now there is no way I can not talk about Nail Envy without talking about the best top coat of all time. For me Glisten and Glow's HK Girl top coat is hands down the best top coat you can get your paws on. This is an extremely fast drying top coat. Even though I do tend to still use Seche Vite from time to time I find that it can cause shrinking at the tips of my nails. With HK Girl you not only avoid shrinking but you cut your dry time down. I have found that if I am in a super hurry that 5 minutes drying time is all I really need. I do tend to let my nails sit for a bit longer normally but you can definitely get away with 5 if you have to. This top coat is also super shiny and leaves your polish looking glossy. I purchase mine from the company directly here.

I am going to lump my next two product together as they have similar qualities.  About 8 months back I discovered California Mango cuticle oil and I haven't used anything else since. Not only does it have this amazing smell but it hydrates your cuticles beautifully. A product I like to use in conjunction with the oil is Opi's Avojuice lotion. Now they make a million scents so it's not just one in particular I prefer. I always like to pick up the mini holiday sets they do. You can get about 10 bottles in a pack and I keep them everywhere, in my purse, in my car, on my nightstand, and my nail desk of coarse. I like how when you use this lotion after applying your oil it helps to absorb everything in to your skin. Most lotions tend to make my hands sweat and I never have that problem with this product. I get both products at my local Sally's Beauty Supply.

When it comes to clean up the next two products are life changing. I originally was using elf concealer brushes to clean up around my cuticles but the acetone was eating through them within a few uses. I managed to find one online and it has lasted me well over a year now. There are a dozen different types out there so you don't need my certain one but I would say that something similar is the way to go. I found mine on Amazon here. Last but not least is my little clear dish. I use it to hold my acetone when I am doing clean up. I know you can use the cap that comes on the acetone bottles but I find that this little dish holds more so I am not having to refill nearly as often. I even use it to hold my cuticle remover liquid. It's not something you have to have but since its like 69 cents I don't see why you wouldn't want to pick one up. I know there are similar ones online but I picked mine up at Sally's.

I hope that this helps you when it comes time to look into new products. I stand behind all of the ones I mentioned and love them tremendously. Please leave a comment mentioning your favorite products as I am always on the look out for something new and exciting to try.

Hues of Blue Foils

I used my favorite black of all time, Opi's Black Onyx, to lay down a base color for the foils. Unfortunately the foils I have don't have a name or number on them. I purchased them from china from a no name company. One is a darker navy blue and the lighter shade is a sky blue shade. You can of coarse use any color foil you like. I used the foil glue that I got in a set from Sally's to make the sticky base. You can have to be careful and try to lay down as thin of a coat as possible. Once the opal glue turns clear after a few minutes you are ready to apply your foil. I did it in patches as opposed to a whole application. I just lightly touched the foil in sections to my nails and then would go back over those empty spots with the other color. I went back and forth between both foils until I liked what I saw. The most important part of foil application is your top coat. They do make a special top coat for them but I don't see the point in wasting the money. All you need is a slower drying top coat or even a clear polish. Quick dry top coats tend to cause the foil to wrinkle. If you are ok with that look then go for it. I actually used my Opi Top Coat first and then once that was dry I used my Seche Vite. The Opi gives a barrier between the foils and Seche Vite and keeps them from wrinkling up.

Copper Autumn Leaves

As you can see by the sad state of my nails I have been having a lot of breaks over the past few weeks. I apologize for taking so long in between posts but they were honestly such bad breaks, all the way down past the quick, that I didn't really want to fool with them at all. I have finally nursed them back to the point where they aren't totally ratchet looking with nail art. They still have a ways to go before back to a good length but I should be able to keep doing nail art from now on.

I started out using two coats of Opi My Vampire is Buff for the nude base. While I was letting it dry I went in with plate BM-H11 from Bundle Monster and Mundo de Unas black and stamped all the leaves on the multiple stamp heads I have. It saves a bunch of time doing it over on several stamper heads as opposed to having to do it one nail at a time. I filled in the center of the leaves with Essie's Penny Talk and then went in with Orly's Flagstone Rush to fill in the rest of the leaves. By the time the stamp was dry to the touch my base color was dry as well. I used firm pressure to stamp the image on to my nails. Since it was minimal clean up all I did was take a brush and some acetone to the bits on my skin. After I pressed every loose piece down with my finger I went in with Kb Shimmer Quick Dry Topcoat to finish all my design.
